Personal: Our first married Thanksgiving

This year we dared to do something a little different for Thanksgiving. Two years ago Donny was in Las Vegas with his family for "Thanksgiving" while I was at a co-workers house (we had just started dating officially that week), and last year we drove up to Yucaipa for a semi-cooked meal (it ended up being leftovers from a family dinner the night before). Since the past two years weren't what you would call "traditional" with the busy kitchen filled with cooked dishes and dirty plates, we decided to go up to Carmel with our good friends Kristin and Greg and spend the holiday in Greg's parents beautiful valley home. Not only was Greg's family very welcoming..but so were the deer! We arrived to 4 of them in their yard only feet away. Of course we had a field day taking photos of these guys. Greg's parents, Dayle and Glen, even had names for them.

Donny and I had driven up to Carmel after a night in Ojai to beat any traffic from LA to Santa Barbara. We were smooth sailing (even after getting lost in the rain when we were literally 30 minutes away) and walked into a beautiful feast set up and seating for 7; small and intimate.

Real turkey on the left, meet (or "meat" haha!) vegan turkey on the right. This is Kristin's first Thanksgiving as a Vegan. I know a lot of people have their opinions about veganism, but I am not a big meat-lover myself and I've got to say that the vegan turkey was all kinds yummy and nom.

Please ignore the tired faces and sleepy smiles. This is a clear sign from an afternoon of traveling, wine, and being effected by the pitch black nights that begin at 6pm in Carmel Valley. Toasting to an excellent Thanksgiving!
